Lon-don -don -don da-don don da-don...
Sep. 2nd, 2003 11:28 amFor those curious about the title, I'm thinking of it to the tune of the Imperial March aka Vader's Song.
Ten days. In ten days I'll be getting on that plane and leaving my homeland to go to some weird country where they think french fries are chips and chips are crisps. Where they drive on the wrong side of the road and take the Tube instead of the subway. Where money is signalled with a squiggly L instead of an S with lines through it, and prices look cheaper while actually being freakishly expensive.
Why am I doing this again? Oh, right, it's the coolest country on Earth (not including America in my listings, because I'm rather afraid of where it'll end up ranking). So anyway, went shopping yesterday and bought myself a sweet new coat, an adorable hat, nice comfy blouse... etc etc etc, I may or may not try to post pics. Probably not.
So anyway, the reason I'm getting anxious/excited is because I'm really REALIZING for almost the first time that I'm really going. I thought I'd realized it when I got my passport; thought it was really there when I got the airline ticket; doubtless I'll "really realize it" when I get in the car to go to the airport, when I get on the plane, when I get off the plane, when I wake up over there, two weeks into the trip... but in the meantime, I'm just realizing for the first time what this trip is gonna be like. I have to figure out whether to get a rail pass, whether to get a youth hostel membership (probably yes to both, but oh I wish they were cheaper), whether to get my own suitcase or to borrow, what books to pack (I think I'll cry when I realize just how few I can manage) and most important of all....
I NEED TO FINISH KNITTING MY SCARF!!!!!! I swore I'd finish this sucker that I started last Christmas, so I'd have something warm with me that could remind me of home. Have carefully knit in sentimental value by knitting on Christmas day in front of the fire, knitting in front of heater with mug of tea on snowday, getting as many female relatives as possible to knit a row, and now I just need to race through to the finish. Note to self: Next time, check dye lots; just because two rolls of yarn claim to be the same color doesn't mean they match perfectly. Oh well, I'm probably the only one who'll notice that one half is a hair darker than the other.
And now back to work. Argh, I'll never finish everything on time.
