I find myself wanting to either kill Weird Al or venerate him. He's either destroyed or made over Billy Joel's "Piano Man" brilliantly, and I can't decide which.

Very personal issue, too, since I love Weird Al and I would love to do that kind of thing, and I like the idea of a "Spider-man" song to match the excellent Star Wars remake of "American Pie" -- but "Piano Man" is kinda sacred. It's the song my Daddy used to dance with me when I was three years old and still dancing by putting my feet on top of his. And it's been our song ever since. Of course, now we do something resembling an actual waltz to it, I'd even like to have it at my wedding (til Dad pointed out that although it has special significance for us, the lines "And the waitress is practicing politics/As the businessmen slowly get stoned/Yes they're sharing a drink they call loneliness/ But it's better than drinking alone" aren't exactly wedding-spirit.) And now Weird Al has made it into a laughingstock.

But such a good laughingstock.

Argh. Wish I could make up my mind. I think I'll wind up choosing his side again. Dangit.

Piano Man definitely rocks. The whole album is great, one of the best my family owns.
